March 21, 2015 is valued by Balinese people as the first day of a new year based on Balinese Saka calendar. They make it as a quiet introspective day called The Day of Silence or Nyepi. Since years ago, Balinese follow several restrictions during the day:

  • No light may be lit
  • No work may be done
  • No travel may be carried out
  • No amusement may be made

And the rules have created significant uniqueness in Bali. In Nyepi day, all shops are closed, all lamps are turned off, no TV channels are on, and even there is no flight on the airport. At night, the stars shine dramatically as the sky is free from the light pollution.

One day before Nyepi, the youngsters gather to show the masterpieces of each customary hamlet, ogoh-ogoh. Ogoh-ogoh is a giant statue representing villain that later will be burnt after the parade.

If you expect to witness ogoh-ogoh and experience the real paradise during the Day of Silence, Grand Mirage Resort & Thalasso Bali invites you to enjoy it together. The parade will pass the hotel at about 5.30 pm to 8 pm, so keep your camera on. For Nyepi day, the beachfront Bali hotel offers a Nyepi package which includes 2-night accommodation, 2x buffet breakfast, 1x buffet lunch, 1x buffet dinner, and various fun competitions.
