My proud moment is when I saved a 5 year-old kid in the pool. I just jumped to the pool without any second thought, and carried her to the pool side

“My proud moment is when I saved a 5 year-old kid in the pool. I just jumped to the pool without any second thought, and carried her to the pool side”

I have learned the skills that should be possessed by the lifeguard since 2010, so that I can trust myself to be a good one. In this Bali all-inclusive resort, my job is to supervise the guests in the pool as well as keeping the cleanliness in the area.

1. What are the challenges for being a Life guard?

The first challenge is that I need to screw up my courage to save someone’s life. To plunge in the pool and grab the sink person are not as easy as how people see it.

The second one is that I have to be alert all the time while my job requires me to stand for a long time. Sometimes, I feel sleepy, and bored, but I always try to control myself.

2. What motivates you to choose your career path?

I love swimming, and I think my passion can be beneficial for others through my current profession.

3. Is there any proud moment during your tenure at Grand Mirage?

My proud moment is when I saved a 5 year-old kid in the pool. I just jumped to the pool without any second thought, and carried her to the pool side. The first thing I did was to calm her down.

4. What have you learnt from working as a lifeguard?

Technically, I have studied about the first aid guide, so I know what to do to save someone’s life. On top of that, I trained myself to be firm and consistent with the rules. I have to warn the guests when they do something dangerous, such as running on the poolside, or jumping to the pool while being drunk.

5. How do you see yourself 10 years from now?

I want to have a better job and better life.

Name : I Wayan Heri Suswanta

Occupation : Laundry Crew

Joining year : 2007

Here, I learn everything, from carrying a good laundry valet service to folding sheets. Working for 7 years in Grand Mirage has made this Bali resort my second home.

1. What is the challenge for being a laundry crew?

I still want to dedicate myself for Grand Mirage Resort in the next 10 years.

“I still want to dedicate myself for Grand Mirage Resort in the next 10 years.”

With my limited English skill, I found that it is a little bit difficult to communicate with hotel guests.

I also have to be careful in every step of it, especially during the marking process. Sometimes, the marking is lost, and I have to ask the guests which one is his/ her clothes.

2. What motivates you to choose your career path?

It is because I already fall in love with the team and the working system in this laundry, so I decide to continue my career here.

3. Is there any proud moment during your tenure at Grand Mirage?

It happened when I started my career, when I was still having hesitation on my skill, experiences, and everything, but finally I could face my first guest without any significant issues.

4. What do you learn from working as a laundry crew?

I learn the technique of washing clothes as well as folding the clothes and the sheet. The knowledge is very useful for my daily life. It can keep my clothes more long lasting.

5. How do you see yourself 10 years from now?

I still want to dedicate myself for Grand Mirage Resort in the next 10 years.
